International Plowing Match Will Not Be Held This Year

Regional | by Claire McCormack

COVID-19 concerns have prompted organizers to push the match to October 2021.

The 103rd edition of the International Plowing Match and Rural Expo (IPM) will not be held this year.

The Leadership of the Ontario Plowmen’s Association (OPA) says they "Made this most difficult decision while closely monitoring local, provincial and federal government information and regulations," they say COVID-19 is a concern and add " The health and safety of our volunteers, sponsors, competitors, visitors and staff will always be our number one priority."

Organizers say it's been postponed until October 2021at the Lindsay Fairgrounds and neighbouring Farms in Lindsay, Municipality of Kawartha Lakes.
Since its beginnings in 1913, this is only the third time that the event has not been able to open.

They note the first cancellation was in 1918 when the quickly-spreading flu pandemic struck the City of Ottawa.  The say the second time it didn't take place was during the Second World War.

They say at the same time, they're moving forward with plans for the 104th IPM and say the Municipality of North Grenville and the Grenville Plowmen’s Association will be co-hosting with OPA in September 2022.
