Two police services in Grey County are warning about counterfeit Canadian and U.S. money circulating in the area.
West Grey Police say they were advised that a male party from the Espanola area attended the Royal Bank in Durham on Aug. 26 and attempted to pass off four fake American $20 bills.
The municipal police service advises there have been similar reports of counterfeit U.S. bills being passed in surrounding communities.
This incident happened after Owen Sound Police reported they are investigating two incidents of high value Canadian bills being passed in the city.
Owen Sound Police say they received two reports on Aug. 24 about fake bills. In one incident, a downtown retailer recovered a phony $50 bill. In the other, a retailer on the east side detected a counterfeit Canadian $100 bill.
The investigations are continuing and city police are encouraging citizens to not accept any $50 or $100 bills with serial numbers AHU1518004 and GJB4570817.
