Provincial Police say their search for a missing windsurfer or paddleboarder in the waters of Lake Huron near Sauble Beach has concluded, and it’s believed the person made it back to shore safely after all.
An extensive search involving helicopters and boats commenced Tuesday night after several witnesses reported to Grey Bruce OPP seeing a lone windsurfer/paddleboarder who appeared to be in distress about 100 metres out from the shore in the area of Sixth Street North at Sauble Beach.
Police initially said the person did not appear to make it back in, but were unable to confirm that. A land and water search was initiated.
Today, helicopters continued to extensively search the water and shoreline of the area the surfer/paddleboarder was spotted around 7:30 last night.
Grey Bruce OPP say they also conducted follow up interviews with witnesses, while additional people came forward.
Police say it is now believed the person made it back to shore safely.
OPP would like to thank the community with their assistance with this investigation.
