Grey Bruce OPP have charged a man with arson and mischief in relation to three fires that broke out in churches yesterday at Saugeen First Nation.
Police say they were dispatched just after 1:30 Monday morning to a fire at Wesley United Church on Highway 21 beside the amphitheatre.
Two other structure fires at two additional churches were also reported to OPP, The Church of Jesus Christ and Saugeen Fellowship Baptist Church.
Saugeen Fist Nation Firefighters were assisted by firefighters from both Saugeen Shores stations.
A few hours later, the OPP Canine Unit and Emergency Response Team located and arrested a suspect in a wooded area on Saugeen First Nation.
Grey Bruce OPP have charged 49 year old, Emric Thompson from Saugeen First Nation with Arson – Damage to Property and Mischief Over $5,000.
He was remanded into custody following a bail hearing.
The Grey Bruce OPP Crime Unit and the Ontario Fire Marshall’s office, continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fires.
