The City of Owen Sound is adding two new electric vehicles to its fleet in an effort to go green.
The arrival of the two Hyundai Konas for the Building Division was approved during the City’s 2021 Capital Budget and according to a release, “represents a positive step in reducing the City’s carbon footprint and greenhouse gas emissions.”
Owen Sound Mayor Ian Boddy says in a statement, “I am glad to see the arrival of the first electric vehicles into the City’s fleet. This is part of the City’s ongoing efforts to improve air quality by reducing the impact of greenhouse emissions and air pollution.”
The city says in a release, the vehicles serving the Chief Building Official and Deputy Chief Building Official will serve a vital role they they conducted around 1,800 inspections throughout the City in 2020.
With the purchase of these new electric vehicles into the City’s fleet, there might also be the eventual installation of charging station within the city hall and Owen Sound Farmer’s Market area, according to the release.
This would also allow for residents and visitors to use the charging station.
