The City of Owen Sound has been selected by Sportsnet to host Scotiabank Hockey Day in Canada.
The actual date for the broadcast portion of Hockey Day in Canada is January 29th, 2022.
However, there will be a variety of events and activities leading up to the Saturday TV broadcast from Owen Sound.
Fred Wallace spoke to Sportsnet host Ron MacLean about Hockey Day in Canada coming to Owen Sound.
Scotiabank Hockey Day in Canada is a television celebration of the sport of hockey and the National Hockey League and will be televised on Saturday January 29th, 2022.
In 2020, the 13.5-hour broadcast reached 10.2 million viewers across Canada.
Previously, Owen Sound hosted ” Hometown Hockey ” on Sportsnet which was a huge success. The difference between ” Hockey Day ” and ” Hometown ” is that ” Hockey Day ” is a multiple day festival for the city and the television length of the program is vastly longer.
The January 29th festival will take place at Harrison Park, however, the City will host 4 days of events leading up to the Saturday and will include Music of Hockey, a gala Banquet, a Celebrity/Alumni Game, on ice children’s clinics, school outreach programs and more.
The event will also feature local hockey games at every level and will culminate with the Owen Sound Attack hosting the Guelph Storm at the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre on January 29th.
Planning for the event will begin immediately, lead by Mayor Ian Boddy, City staff, and a local volunteer organizing committee.
