The great weather prognosticating groundhog of the Bruce Peninsula, Wiarton Willie has made his annual call on whether or not we’ll be forced to endure six more weeks of winter.
And the word from Willie is… it’s an early spring!
South Bruce Peninsula Mayor Janice Jackson relayed the news at exactly 8:07 a.m. this morning. The event was held virtually this year.
Willie was making his return after mysteriously missing prediction morning in 2021. We later learned the famed groundhog died ahead of the event. A new brown groundhog understudy was brought on and trained by the Town of South Bruce Peninsula for this year.
Wiarton Willie’s call broke ranks with other, less reliable groundhogs who made forecasts this morning as well. Shubenacadie Sam and Punxsutawney Phil are calling for six more weeks of winter.
