The Town of South Bruce Peninsula is dedicating a day to hockey player Kurtis MacDermid.
Mayor Janice Jackson introduced a motion at today’s council meeting, seconded by Deputy Mayor Jay Kirkland to declare August 29th as ‘Kurtis MacDermid Day’ in the town.
Jackson’s motion says the MacDermid family have been longstanding business owners and citizens in Sauble Beach, and Kurtis MacDermid is a professional hockey player for the NHL’s Colorado Avalanche which won the 2022 Stanley Cup.
MacDermid played minor hockey at Shallow Lake before suiting up in Owen Sound for both the Owen Sound Junior B Greys and the Owen Sound Attack.
Jackson notes there is a celebration planned in Sauble Beach on the 29th for MacDermid who plans to have the Stanley Cup with him.
A schedule of events on the 29th has not been released.
