A new fleet of buses are coming to Owen Sound transit as of this weekend.
The City of Owen Sound says on Aug. 27, Voyago, which currently operates the Guelph Owen Sound Transit (GOST), will be operating the city’s half-hour fixed route and on-demand mobility transit services for residents.
The city says this interim fleet of accessible buses gives residents access to new technology, which allows people to see real-time bus locations along routes and predict when they will arrive at any of the stops. This will be installed on the buses later in the fall.
In addition, onboard automated announcements notify customers of upcoming stops.
The fleet of low-floor, ramp-equipped buses are anticipated to arrive in spring 2023, and also feature bike racks.
The city says this comes as its strategic plan identified making getting around more flexible, affordable, faster, and more safer while considering the natural environment was deemed a priority.
For those looking to book mobility transit services with Voyago, call 519-671-7168 as early as Aug. 26, before the service starts running the next day.
Mayor Ian Boddy says, “we are excited to have Voyago as the new transit service provider. Access to transportation helps people of all ages stay connected, attend social events, access employment opportunities, important health services, education, and so much more.”
