An unexpected, twisting weather system appears to have swept through Sauble Beach Wednesday afternoon.
Residents have sent video and photos of what appears to be a funnel shaped cloud or waterspout over the water, and also a swirling weather system in the area of the Sauble River in the north end.
There were no watches or warnings issued by environment Canada regarding a tornado or severe weather this afternoon.
At least one street is reportedly closed as a result of weather related damage.
Resident Mary Kilsch lives in the north end, on the river by the marina and says she was surprised to see sudden damage, explaining, “We just heard a loud ‘bang’ and roar and kind of got up and we just saw a twister come up the river.”
She adds, “We saw it just rip a dock and a couple of boats right from shore,” describing the twister as bouncing across the river. “It ripped a whole dock, and a boat and flipped another boat, and sent it right up the river” says Kilsch.
She adds, “There’s trees down here at the north end and a tree on a person’s roof. So there’s tree damage after that.”
Kilsch says the storm moved up the river and then onto land on the east side of the river.
“It was so quick, and when you’re watching it, you want to keep looking because you’re mesmerized, but your also thinking is it coming this way? And should we hide?”
Kilsch says it went by the public parking lot near the Meats N’ More and caused tree damage.
Residents and onlookers have sent in some video and photos of the twister. If you would like to submit photos or viedo, email news@bayshorebroadcasting.ca
