Saugeen Shores Police say a stolen vehicle has left one officer injured and cruisers damaged.
Police say on Sept. 1, they were notified of a stolen vehicle possibly heading towards Saugeen Shores.
Police say around 9 p.m., officers on patrol spotted the suspect vehicle heading southbound through Southampton. An officer veered onto the shoulder of the roadway to avoid a head-on collision and the vehicle continued in a dangerous manner towards Port Elgin.
Police say an officer saw the suspect vehicle fail to stop at several intersections and driving in a way that was dangerous to people’s safety.
Officers later located the vehicle at a gas pump in downtown Port Elgin and attempted to box the vehicle in.
Police say the vehicle revered at a high speed into a marked police vehicle damaging it, then drove forward damaging another police cruiser. The vehicle was able to escape the lot in a dangerous manner.
Police add both of their vehicles received heavy damage and were rendered inoperable.
Saugeen Shores Police says they updated the OPP of the direction of travelling vehicle at that time.
The Provincial police will be completing the investigation and further updates will be provided when available.
One Saugeen Shores Officer received minor injuries due to the collision.
