Saugeen Shores Council has approved conceptual plans for an Aquatic & Wellness Centre as well as Phase Two of the Lamont Sports Park project.
A release from the Town says council members approved a recommendation from staff as well as the project’s prime consultant to locate the Aquatic & Wellness Centre on the east side of the Plex along Wellington Street.
Conceptual plans include an eight lane pool, a gym, and walking track in the 54 thousand square foot facility.
It’s projected cost is around $34 million.
Council has directed staff to return on December 12th with a more detailed design and project budget.
The Town says the approved concept design came after the Town solicited residents’ input through a public meeting on August 31st, as well as through public submissions and extensive interactions online.
The release says, council also approved a conceptual design for Phase 2 of the Lamont Sports Park.
It includes two youth baseball fields, an accessible playground, a 200-seat pavilion, batting cages and a storage building. Council is expected to review those design details on December 12th.
Mayor Luke Charbonneau says in a statement, “We are advancing these major projects to serve our active and growing population,” adding, “As we build these new facilities, we are enhancing the health of our residents and making Saugeen Shores a regional centre for sports and recreation.”
Construction for the aquatic centre is projected to start in June 2023, with a public opening in Spring 2025.
Construction on the Lamont Sports Park phase two is expected to get underway in the spring of 2023. Phase one of the Lamont Sports Park officially opens in May of 2023.
