The Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters (OFAH) is holding its quarterly meeting in Wiarton this weekend.
Senior Chair of Zone H Mike Evers says the Bruce Peninsula Sportsmen’s Association (BPSA) will be hosting the meeting on Jan. 15 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., where they will be welcoming delegates from as far away as Orillia, Barrie and Kincardine.
Evers says the issue surrounding guns will be brought up at the meeting, following the federal government’s recent move to ban a number of various firearms, some of which include some hunting rifles.
“Our federation out of the head office, has already put forward an eight point recommendation to the Ottawa office of Minister of Public Safety Marco Mendicino, and so that has sort of already been addressed,” says Evers.
Additionally, the meeting will also consist of reports on fisheries and changes to forests and wildlife, and feature guest speaker Natalie Mechalko.
“She will be talking about our Next Generation Ambassador program and what that is. We are trying to encourage more young people to get involved in environmental causes and conservation, and Natalie is one of those young people that, between the ages of 18 and 30 years of age who are now in that program. We encourage all young people to get involved and they do bring a lot of good productive ideas to the table,” says Evers.
The meeting is also holding a draw where one member of the OFAH will win $75, with other additional prize draws taking place as well.
“These meetings provide a great opportunity for youth to connect with our federation at the zone level and share your passion for the outdoors with like-minded individuals,” says Evers.
Evers welcomes all in the area to attend the meeting.
