Northern Bruce Peninsula council is approving the purchases of two new vehicles for emergency and plowing services.
During a council meeting on Jan. 30, two reports were brought forward by Fire Chief Jack Burt and Public Works Manager Troy Cameron. The reports recommended purchasing a quick response rescue vehicle for $239,500, and a plow truck for $380,375.
The report from Burt says their current quick response rescue vehicle in Tobermory is scheduled for replacement in 2023, as the vehicle is a 2004 model.
Front Line Emergency Vehicles currently has one 2022 model in stock, and is being sold at a discount.
“This 2022 quick response rescue unit is similar to the existing rescue unit currently in service, with upgrades including a large scene light on top of the rescue box and a poly body on the chassis as opposed to a metal body like the current quick response rescue,” says the report.
The vehicle is expected to be put into service before this coming summer and is being purchased from the 2023 capital budget.
Council also gave approval for the purchase of a 2024 plow truck for $380,375.
The report from Cameron says the 2007 vehicle was slated for replacement last year, with four additional trucks scheduled for replacement over the next five years.
The vehicle is estimated to be operational by the third or fourth quarter of this year.
Public Works included $350,000 in the 2023 Capital Budget for the purchase of the plow truck, with the remaining $30,375 to be covered through the fleet reserve.
