South Bruce Peninsula council has agreed on the purchase of a new pumper tanker for the Town’s fire department.
It will cost about $532,600.
$460,000 will come from the capital budget and $81,983 is to come out of the Emergency Services capital replacement reserve fund.
An August 2022 staff report to council said, a review determined most of the fire related occurrences in the municipality have been outside of fire hydrant protected areas, which necessitates a the use of a tanker shuttle water delivery method.
Staff said, “With the decommissioning of Tanker 34, it has become apparent that our department is heavily relying on external resources to meet the demands of the modern sized homes being built within our municipality. Further, staff have identified that two of the pumping apparatus within our department is nearing its recommended replacement age.”
Back on October 21st, a tender was issued for the supply of a new pumper tanker.
The tanker is expected within a year.
