Bruce County is moving forward with research into a transit feasibility study.
The county’s Planning staff provided a report this week during the Planning Committee’s meeting.
Staff is working to find a type of system that works best for everyone, as well as have other potential alternatives to best meet demand.
The current phase for the Planning team is to find ways to get public feedback, which is expected to be done in two phases — a survey to get feedback on the study vision and develop an understanding of local travel needs, and another to get feedback on what approaches may be proposed.
During a presentation to the committee, Director of Planning Claire Dodds says that staff is excited to move forward with the plan, saying, “Transportation and connections certainly came up as a strong message through Plan the Bruce.”
Dodds shared that the basis of the project dates back to a number of initiatives, including Master Plans for both the county and its member municipalities.
Two-thirds of the project, $100,000, is funded by the county budget.
Another $50,000 comes from the Public Transit Program – Rural Transit Solution Fund through Industry Canada.
