The Town of Saugeen Shores is launching a program offering window decals to local businesses ahead of Pride Month in June.
The town says the Pride Recognition Program has 100 of these decals to give establishments who agree to uphold the values of diversity, equity and inclusion.
The program is part of a Welcoming Communities Action Plan presented to council May 8, which has three goals. These include establishing central locations where newcomers can find relevant and valuable information, creating awareness of strength in diversity, and fostering relationships with underrepresented groups to understand their needs.
Mayor Luke Charbonneau says as their population grows in size and diversity, initiatives like this will help them become more open and inclusive.
“We need all of our residents to feel at home, and we need visitors to know they are welcome,” says Charbonneau.
Created in partnership with the Saugeen Shores Chamber of Commerce, and both the Southampton and Port Elgin Business Improvement Areas, business owners can request the decals on the Saugeen Shoes municipal website here on a first-come, first-served basis.
