South Bruce OPP say they laid 125 charges during a week long Canada Road Safety initiative.
OPP say the campaign targeted the “Big Four” contributing factors to death, injury and property damage on OPP patrolled roads and highways: impaired driving, aggressive driving, failure to wear a seatbelt and distracted or inattentive driving.
It ran from May 16th to the 23rd. South Bruce OPP cover a large portion of Southern Bruce County including Brockton, Arran-Elderslie, Huron-Kinloss and Kincardine.
They say they laid 94 speeding charges.
Other charges include:
5 seatbelt charges
1 careless driving charge
1 stunt driving charge
1 fail to stop for school bus charge
South Bruce OPP say during the campaign, they investigated 11 collisions, there were minor injuries reported at one of the scenes.
Meanwhile, West Region OPP which includes 13 detachments including South Bruce OPP and covers a large portion of Southwestern Ontario from the Bruce Peninsula, down to Sarnia and over to the GTA, says it laid over 2,600 charges during the campaign.
They say they laid:
1552 speeding charges (51 stunt/racing charges)
60 impaired driving charges (11 warn-range suspensions)
94 seatbelt charges
22 distracting driving charges
To compare, in 2022, West Region OPP laid over 2400 charges, including:
1609 speeding charges (43 stunt/racing charges)
72 impaired charges
78 seatbelt charges
27 distracted driving charges
