U19
The Owen Sound U19 Creative Playgrounds Women’s Field Lacrosse Team was host to the Kitchener Waterloo Kodiaks in JEWL division play on Friday night. At half-time Owen Sound trailed by one but dominated the third quarter to take a 9-5 lead and managed to hang on to win 13-10. Goaltender Gillian Warren had another strong performance making critical saves and was awarded the teams player of the game. Jillian Goldie scored 4 goals, Brooklyn Doyle, Courtney Scott, Edyn Beyer and Dani Strong each scored a pair and Karly Low had a single.
The team hosted Orangeville the following morning where their 2 game winning streak came to a close. Despite dominating the draw circle, Owen Sound struggled to take advantage of their scoring opportunities and lost 17-11. Scoring for Owen Sound was Jill Goldie with 6, Brooklyn Doyle had a pair and singles came from Karly Low, Cassidy Low and Edyn Beyer. A special thanks to our community for showing their support this weekend! It was a privilege to play in front of a home crowd.
Owen sound takes the field again Friday night in Acton for back to back games. They play the undefeated Oshawa Lady Blue knights at 6:30 pm and Toronto Beaches at 8:30 pm.
U19A
Our hometown games saw two (2) BIG wins for the U19A Krueger Steel team. Kicking off the first matchup against Mimico 2 with a 12-0 win. Goals scored by Hannah Davies (2), Aliviah McCall (2), Camryn Stauffer (2), Willow Smith (2) and singles by Grace Smyth, Ryann Seaman, Emily Gordon and Payton Duwyn. The team keep the momentum going when they faced the Guelph Regals. North Stars topped the Regals by a score of 10-3. Goals scored by Willow Smith (3), Grace Smyth (2), Ryann Seaman (2). Singles from Camryn Stauffer, Ella McCoubrey, and Aliviah McCall. Mykah Harris was outstanding in net for the North Stars making a number of key saves. Huge thanks to the volunteers and organizers for an awesome weekend in Owen Sound! Next action will be on Saturday when the North Stars travel to Burlington.
U15
The U15A Owen Sound Fire Fighters North Stars won a pair of closely contested games on their home weekend of the Ontario Women’s Field Lacrosse season on Saturday.
The North Stars won their first game versus Kitchener-Waterloo Kodiaks by a score of 7-6. Bree Wilkins led the attack for the North Stars with four goals. Sara Barfoot added two goals for the home team while Avery Seaman had one.
In their second game the North Stars topped the Halton Hills Bulldogs by a score of 8-7. Wilkins was the leading scorer again for the North Stars with three goals. Leah Cooper had one goal and three points, while the other goal scorers for the North Stars were Taryn Weppler with two, and Camryn Laycock and Seaman with one each.
Marley Woodhouse was outstanding in net for the North Stars, making a number of keys saves to preserve the two wins.
Next action for the U15A squad will be Saturday when the North Stars travel to Burlington to play the Orangeville Northmen and the Orillia Lady Kings.
U13
The U13 Legacy Ridge Golf Course team hosted two home games this weekend! First match was against KW which defeated them in score of 9-1. Goal scored by Ella Todd. The girls held strong in the first quarter of their 2nd game against the top team Oshawa but fell short in a loss of 10-2. Single goals by Ella Todd and Hailey Frede. The team will be heading to Burlington next Sunday afternoon for their next matchup.
U11
The Owen Sound Ron Hopper Real Estate U11A girls team split their league play games in Owen Sound on Sunday. The team had a 13-2 loss against Oshawa (Sophie Burnett-Scott 1 goal and Adele Ferguson 1 goal), but was ready for a comeback in their second game. The team defeated New Market in an exciting 10-9 final, with goals by Adele (3), Keeva Fox (3),Tessa Matheson (2), Hanna Carr (1) and Sophie (1) and 3 assists by Molly Richardson.The girls would like to thank all the organizers and volunteers who helped make the home weekend so fantastic!!! A big shout out to Brandon Stauffer (super fan!) and Kelly Wilkins for all of their hard work. The team is next in action on Sunday, June 11 in Burlington.
