Over the past few years, Jesse Walker of Owen Sound has challenged himself with a variety of distance events as both a fundraiser and awareness raiser for childhood cancer.
After doing both half marathons and full marathons in the past 3 years, Walker has generated more than $ 75,000.
Jesse Walker joined Steve Ritchie & Fred Wallace on the 560 CFOS Morning Show and announced what his plans are for this Summer.
Walker started doing the runs in 2020 as a way to raise funds, create awareness and help others who are currently battling the disease that he himself has fought.
In 2018, Walker was diagnosed with medulla blastoma – a form of brain cancer — and underwent a successful 12-hour craniotomy to have the tumour removed. That was followed by 30 doses of spinal and cranial radiation, and then 40 doses of chemotherapy. His recovering included 16 admissions to hospital and 79 nights in hospital beds. He had 16 blood transfusions
On July 29th Walker will do a triathlon with the goal of surpassing the $ 100,000 mark in funds raised through the years by his activities.
