The Owen Sound sporting community is mourning after the death of a prominent young athlete.
Tyson Downs passed unexpectedly on the weekend. He was 18-years-old.
Downs played lacrosse for the Owen Sound Junior B North Stars and was a graduate of Owen Sound Minor Hockey. He played in the the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League last season with the Kitchener-Waterloo Siskins.
The Junior B North Stars posted a statement on social media acknowledging the tragic loss: “Tyson was a massive part of our team on and off the floor and he will be deeply missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, teammates and the Owen Sound community.”
The cause of death is not known at this time.
The Junior North Stars are holding a session tonight to help the players cope.
A funeral service will be held at the Bayshore Community Centre Sunday afternoon.
