Grey Highlands is gearing up for the reconstruction of a section of Highway 10 next week.
The $3.1-million reconstruction of Toronto Road and Sydenham Street in Flesherton (Highway 10) was initially scheduled to start in early July, but Grey Highlands Mayor Paul McQueen says the contractor agreed to hold off for a bit after hearing some of the concerns shared by local business owners.
He says local officials had a meeting in July with the contractor to discuss the issues of having this major project proceed throughout the entire summer.
Several Flesherton business owners spoke out publicly about their worries the traffic disruptions could have negative impact on their revenue during the busy tourist season.
“We talked about the concerns that residents had raised. Long story short, they decided that they would hold off doing the major construction until next week after the (August) long weekend,” says McQueen. “During the summer months, Highway 10 is a very busy road and the backups can be quite great going into Flesherton and Markdale.”
Council awarded a $3.1 million contract for the reconstruction of Highway 10 (Toronto Road and Sydenham Street) in Flesherton at its June 7 meeting. It is being funded primarily by provincial grant dollars.
McQueen says construction will occur throughout August and September, and a final paving next summer. There will be no full lane closures of Highway 10 during the job.
