Chatsworth is moving ahead with a couple of studies for a proposed subdivision.
Council reviewed a preliminary draft plan from CAO Clerk Patty Sinnamon at its meeting on Aug. 2. It currently looks at the development of 39 single family lots and three multi-unit townhouses, which includes 18 units. The final design is not yet confirmed and could be subject to change.
“In terms of the number of single family dwellings or townhouse units, we don’t know at this point,” says Sinnamon.
Sinnamon says while the property does not have an address currently, it is located next to the legion building just off Highway 6 in Village of Chatsworth.
Mayor Scott Mackey says council supported proceeding with a nitrate study on the soil to accommodate septic systems.
“All these lots would be on individual septic systems. We do have town water which would be going into the new subdivision,” says Mackey.
He adds council also approved a traffic study for an entrance to the proposed subdivision, as the plan currently does not have an entrance onto Highway 6.
“The Ministry of Transportation is saying we can’t have an entrance onto Highway 6. Council would really like to see an additional entrance onto Highway 6, so part of the traffic impact study will be looking for a justification report for that additional entrance onto Highway 6,” says Mackey.
Sinnamon says the land was purchased by the township in 2019 for the purposes of future development.
She adds they hope to submit the draft plan to the county by the end of August or early September. In terms of when shovels will go into the ground, she says it all depends on council.
