It’s day one of the Owen Sound Salmon Spectacular and the first big fish to set the standard atop the leaderboard has been reeled in.
Jeff Hunter of Owen Sound caught an 18.87-pound salmon to establish himself as the early leader on the Bumstead Insurance, Financial and Employee Benefits leaderboard.
There’s no leader in the trout division yet.
The weigh station at Georgian Shores Marina opened at 10 a.m. to start the 10-day fishing derby. More than $175,000 in prizes is up for grabs during the Owen Sound Salmon Spectacular this year.
There’s lots of daily entertainment planned at the tent, which closes at 10 p.m. each evening, throughout the derby.
