Staff from OPG’s Nuclear Sustainability Services group were spending time giving back to the community.
Members of their Western Waste Management Facility took time on September 21st to help re-paint both the Indigenous and Pride Crosswalks in the municipality of Kincardine.
The power company says that their participation in re-painting the crosswalks in the community is a part of an ongoing journey to reconciliation, as well as a representation of the company’s work to support and celebrate inclusion.
Later that day, staff members were able to present a cheque for a $50,000 donation to the Teeswater Medical Centre fundraising campaign.
Brent Fisher, Senior Manager of Corporate Relations and Projects with Ontario Power Generation says that the company likes to give back to the community and be good corporate citizens.
“We support dozens of initiatives in the Bruce County area,” says Fisher. “Certainly health care and social issues are a top priority for us.”
The medical centre, which has been in the works for the past two years, is slated to provide the community with two family doctors and an on-site pharmacy, along with other health care professionals.
The medical centre has taken a lot of work to bring a vision to life, and Fisher says that he was speaking with the volunteer-based steering committee before the cheque presentation event, he learned that they’ve almost achieved their fundraising goal of $2.6 million.
“For us just to be a part of that, we have a lot of employees that reside in the community, we rely on community support, and it’s great to be able to give back. Especially in the healthcare world, where we know our frontline workers are stretched pretty thin right now. It’s exceptional to be able to provide resources to enhance health care opportunities in the communities.”
The donation was presented by OPG’s Vice-President Kapil Aggarwal.
