The West Grey Fire Department is enhancing its training with a recent $5,000 grant from Enbridge Gas.
Deputy Fire Chief Shawn Edwards says they used the grant funding from this year’s Enbridge Gas Safe Community Project Assist campaign to purchase training materials, which arrived on Nov. 15.
“The grant was applied for in the spring of 2023 and the recipients were announced in late summer and the training materials were bought this fall,” says Edwards.
The firefighting training materials from the Fire Marshal’s Public Fire Safety Council included training manuals and an exam preparation library for each fire station.
“The Province of Ontario has legislated that all firefighters in the province become certified to the National Fire Protection Association standards by July, 2025 and that has created a great demand for these training materials in the exam preparations so that our firefighters can continue their education and work towards that certification,” says Edwards.
Mayor Kevin Eccles adds, “ensuring our firefighters have the necessary training to safely answer the call has always been a priority.”
