West Grey is inviting Hanover and Brockton to talk about the future of the Saugeen Municipal Airport.
Council approved sending the invite during a meeting on Dec. 5 in response to a letter from Brockton who recently approved proceeding with the sale of the airport.
In a letter from the Municipality from Brockton, it asks the councils from the Town of Hanover and the Municipality of West Grey to make a decision regarding the future of the facility.
Director of Finance and Treasurer Kerri Mighton says Hanover council had addressed the matter at its council meeting on Dec. 4.
“Their decision was to convene a meeting of all three partners, senior staff and all three partner council members. They are proposing that happen in February or March,” says Mighton.
Deputy Mayor Tom Hutchinson, who also sits on the airport committee, was in favour of having a meeting.
West Grey and its partners have been in the process of pondering the future of the airport. In September, the municipality requested a report detailing all aspects of the airport and the impacts of either the sale or dissolution of it.
CAO Laura Johnston says from the Hanover perspective, it appears the goal is to get a collective decision to see what Brockton is looking to achieve and why they have come to this decision to try and sell the airport.
Council approved following Hanover’s response in trying to organize a meeting for February or March.
