Bruce County is going to consider joining the Southwestern Ontario Isotope Coalition this week.
Council will be hearing from Canadian Nuclear Isotope Council Chair James Scongack, as staff recommend the county join the coalition as a regional collaborative partner.
This comes after the coalition met in Owen Sound in October to mark its formation.
Representatives from Bruce County were invited to attend the event, along with those from Grey and Huron counties.
Since that event, the coalition held an initial meeting with regional partners in Kincardine in December, with another meeting planned with regional partners this month.
The role of the coalition is work with the Canadian Nuclear Isotope Council and convey the region’s role in the isotope ecosystem to both provincial and federal governments, as well as policy markers and leaders in healthcare. The coalition will also help attract investment to expand the region’s position within the ecosystem.
A report from Commissioner of Community Development Claire Dodds says, “staff is of the opinion that joining the Southwestern Ontario Isotope Coalition will provide positive interactions within the broader isotope community. By joining of the coalition, Bruce County will be able to grow its network, while building and implementing Bruce County specific actions intended to attract and build the isotope sector locally.”
Council will consider joining the coalition during its meeting on March 7 at 9:30 a.m.
