Three pet dogs died in a residential fire in Owen Sound this afternoon.
Fire Chief Phil Eagleson says firefighters were called at 12:21 p.m. to a multi-residential unit on fire in the 200 block of 13th Street East this afternoon.
Eagleson says the fire started in the kitchen. The two residents of the unit weren’t home at the time and the exact cause is being investigated. The fire was contained to one unit. The other unit in the building was completely vacant.
Eagleson says no firefighters were injured, but the three large pet dogs who died in the blaze were discovered by firefighters.
The damage to the unit is estimated at $250,000.
The road was closed for about three hours and has since reopened.
