OPP stations in our region are installing a new public access calling system.
Now, if you visit a detachment after-hours, there will be a new “E-phone” at the door.
It ‘s a touch screen system that replaces the old handset phone used for decades outside OPP buildings.
All E-phone calls will connect directly to the OPP Provincial Communications Centres for service as the previous system did.
When the user touches the call-screen icon, dispatchers will see the location of the call, saving them time gathering the caller’s information.
OPP say 20 of 34 West Region locations have transitioned to the new E-phone system, and the rest will transition over by the fall.
