The Tom Thomson Art Gallery is hosting a special exhibit later this month in celebration of the famous painter’s homecoming to Owen Sound.
On June 14 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m., the exhibit will unveil the gallery’s first donation of a Tom Thomson painting in over 20 years.
This Homecoming exhibition will explore the role the city played in the artist’s growth and eventually becoming an icon.
As part of the event, attendees will be treated to opening remarks by Art Historian Charles Hill, a musical performance, a Tom Thomson monologue, as well as themed drinks and edible art.
The following day on June 15 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., there will be a lunch and talk by Hill.
Art Gallery Director and Chief Curator Aidan Ware says, “this exhibition has been in development for many years and through the efforts of former Curator of Collections, David Huff, we are able to not only celebrate Tom Thomson’s connection with Owen Sound, but also the addition of a new Thomson painting into the collection. It is a homecoming in the truest sense.”
