The first ever Bruce County Comicon drew a large crowd to Southampton over the weekend.
The brand new event welcomed thousands to the Southampton Coliseum on Saturday as about 75 vendors were selling all things comics, movies, video games, and crafts.
Organizer Julia Barac says she was very happy with the event.
“We didn’t know what to expect when we opened the doors, but in the first hour we had about 1,000 people come through,” says Barac.
In addition the the vendors, they also welcomed cosplayers and local celebrities including Brampton Batman and his batmobile.
From this positive experience, Barac says they are looking at making the Bruce County Comicon a regular annual event in the summer.
“We will probably come back next summer and do it again and expand and make it bigger and better,” says Barac. “Hopefully in terms of the venue, there is the curling club side of the venue so we can at least expand the venue, but hopefully the goal is at some point to get some celebrity guests, that would kind of be the next level up.”
She adds having free admission made the event more attractive to attend.
“So we have had a crowd that is really well-versed in collectable stuff, but also people that just want to check it out just to see what it’s about,” says Barac.
She adds vendors have also given positive feedback and have requested to come back next year.
“It’s been a great turn out, the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, so I am really appreciative of everyone supporting us,” says Barac.
