South Bruce OPP was busy last week responding to calls for service on Lake Huron.
Police say the OPP Marine Unit responded on July 25 to a sail boat which had crashed into the rocks around Saugeen Shores around 5:06 p.m. The boat was in danger of tipping over and Saugeen Shores fire and police assisted in bringing the lone person on the boat back to shore. No injuries were reported.
Then on July 28, police responded to the Kincardine Harbour around 12:50 p.m. after a boat had collided with a rock just off the coast of Kincardine. The boat was reported to be in distress of taking in water.
Police say a good samaritan, along with the marine unit, brought the boat back safely to shore. No one was injured.
Police encourage boat operators and owners to access the Safe Boating Guide found on the Government of Canada website here and to have safety equipment onboard, including a life jacket or personal floatation device, reboarding device, buoyant heaving line, manual bilge pump, and flares.
“What you need to carry varies by vessel/vessel length, but it’s imperative that your ensure your have the required safety equipment on board before you leave the dock,” says South Bruce OPP.
