Northern Bruce Peninsula is increasing its incentive for physicians to set up shop in the municipality.
Council approved upping its physician recruitment incentive from $25,000 to $35,000 during its meeting on Monday.
The recommendation from the Physician Recruitment and Retention Committee says the increase it to remain competitive with similar communities.
During a meeting in December, committee member Pam Loughlean provided details on physician recruitment incentives by the Peninsula Family Health Team and what other neighbouring communities are offering.
To date, six physicians have received recruitment incentive funding from the municipality.
Loughlean and committee member Dr. Elaine Blau suggested increasing the incentive from $25,000 to $35,000 to ensure Northern Bruce Peninsula was able to stay competitive in the compensation offered to prospective physicians.
Northern Bruce Peninsula keeps a physician recruitment reserve and adds to it annually.
