West Grey is adopting a financing strategy to replace several municipal bridges.
Council approved adopting the strategy during a special meeting on March 11, which details a 10-year plan on how to address 10 priority bridges in need of $19.1 million worth of repairs.
This priority list will be updated during each yearly budget deliberation, which will focus on a specific structure to be replaced.
The financing strategy includes continuing to commit a base tax levy for bridges, commit an additional one per cent tax levy, estimated at $140,000, for bridges for 10 years, and commit to allocating 41 per cent of the annual Ontario Community Infrastructure Fund grant towards bridges each year, which is about $450,000 a year.
This comes after the municipality awarded a $1.9 million contract last month to replace a bridge in Glenelg.
