Those who have been in the area of Port Elgin’s North Shore Park may have noticed some recent changes.
Fences have gone up around part of it, the swing set is gone and some work is underway.
The Town says with warmer weather arriving, phase one of the North Shore Park Master Plan is moving ahead.
They say work this spring will include new walking paths, a new central activity area including a new playground, pavilion, gardens, and accessible space. Work will also include re-naturalizing the old harbour entrance and playground space, planting more trees and creating an improved open green play space. There will be a new, more direct entrance to the harbour. (The current entrance goes right through a popular walking path). They say there will also be parking improvements.
The Town’s website says the work will continue from March to July. A longer, five to ten year outlook for the park master plan includes a paved boat parking area, 48 parking spaces along McVicar Street and Stevens Street as well as a meandering limestone pathway through the park.
At last check, the walking path through the park is still open.
