Freezing rain warnings have been issued for Owen Sound, northern Grey County and the Bruce Peninsula.
Environment Canada says rain will begin late this afternoon and then change to freezing rain tonight. Depending on temperatures, the freezing rain could continue through Sunday in some areas.
“Freezing rain may change over to rain on Saturday as temperatures fluctuate around the freezing mark. Areas that change over to rain will see less ice accretion,” Environment Canada says in its warning. “Freezing rain will persist longer over higher terrain where temperatures will stay slightly cooler. Freezing rain is expected to end for all areas by midday Sunday.”
Forecasters say significant ice build-up of five to 10 millimetres is possible over the next couple of days. The ice could also potentially cause power outages.
“Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots will become icy, slippery and hazardous. Ice build-up may cause tree branches to break,” Environment Canada says.
