Some people in Owen Sound are pleased to see they will be paying less at the pumps.
The federal consumer carbon tax got scrapped today, which is expected to drop the cost of gas by about 20 cents per litre.
The move to scrap the carbon tax was made last month by Prime Minister Mark Carney.
Owen Sound resident Jeanette Poulton says she believes the carbon tax should have been ended sooner.
“I think it is a good thing , but just waiting for the second shoe to fall,” says Poulton.
Maryanne, another Owen Sound resident, adds she also believes the carbon tax should have been cut sooner and hopes it will last.
“It’s just a government ripoff,” says Malyanne.
Justin Trudeau’s Liberal Government first implemented this federal carbon tax program in 2019 to incentivize Canadians to transition to greener energy sources.
The policy faced opposition from some provincial governments as well as the federal opposition conservatives. With Opposition Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre coining his “Axe the Tax” slogan.
