Owen Sound police have charged a man with a list of offences in an investigation that began with a pursuit on the weekend, and later led to a search and seizure of drugs.
Police say on Sunday, April 13th at about 4 p.m., members of the Owen Sound Police Service responded to a report of a disturbance at a residence on the city’s west side. Before police got there, a male suspect fled the residence in a vehicle.
Police say they tried to stop the suspect’s vehicle on multiple occasions and in the interest of public safety, they eventually ended their pursuit.
With assistance from the OPP, air support, Emergency Response Team and canine unit, the suspect was safely taken into custody the following morning just east of Owen Sound.
City police say as the investigation progressed, members of their criminal investigations branch obtained a search warrant for the involved west side residence.
Police say they seized a significant quantity of controlled substances and Canadian cash, including:
Fentanyl equivalent to approximately 860 individual doses
Approximately 800 grams of cocaine
Over $30,000 in Canadian currency
The estimated street value of the fentanyl is approximately $17,000, and the cocaine is valued at approximately $80,000.
The 23-year-old man of no fixed address has been arrested and formally charged with the following offences:
-Assault with a Weapon
-Uttering Threats to Cause Death
-Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking – Fentanyl
-Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine
-Flight from Police (Two Counts)
-Mischief Under $5,000
-Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle (Two Counts)
-Possession of a Schedule I Substance
-Fail to Comply with Probation
