Long-term care facilities and daycares in Grey County will be receiving thousands of masks after a generous donation by an Owen Sound resident.
The city accepted 10,000 masks from Louise Gamble, who collected face covering donations while she resided and worked as a missionary in Taiwan.
The masks were donated by teachers, students and parents of Tamkang Private School in Taiwan.
The city plans to distribute the masks to long-term care facilities in Owen Sound and Chatsworth, Grey County-operated daycares and some non-government organizations.
“We are very thankful for this generous donation from the Taiwanese community and I personally thank Louise Gamble for her role in this effort. These masks will be used and appreciated by many residents and visitors of long-term care homes, Grey County daycare staff and many others in our region, as the City continues to support community safety,” says Mayor Ian Boddy in a statement.
Gamble was at Lee Manor on Wednesday when she was acknowledged by numerous local dignitaries and government officials for the contribution.
Those on hand included Mayor Boddy, Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound MPP Bill Walker, Chatsworth Deputy Mayor Brian Gamble, Grey County Director of Long-Term Care Jennifer Cornell, Lee Manor Executive Director Stacie Goldie, Past President of the Taiwanese Human Rights Association of Canada Michael Stainton and Owen Sound City Manager Tim Simmonds.
