George Gilbert Rice

Passed away peacefully at Grey Gables in Markdale on January 15, 2022. Born in Massie, on September 29, 1926, George Gilbert Rice of Owen Sound, was in his 96th year.
Loving father of Elaine McLennan and her husband Don of Manitoba, and Murray Rice and his wife Joanne Opsteen of Toronto. Cherished grandpa of Carol (Phil Dasilva), Deanna and Jocelyn. Dear brother of Brian Rice and his wife Norma of Owen Sound, Yvonne Lawrence of Chatham, and Jack Rice and his wife Isabel of Kitchener. Gilbert will also be missed by his nieces, nephews and friends.
Predeceased by his wife Evelyn (née Fisher) Rice in 2015, parents George and Jessie (née Root) Rice, sister Lois Johnson (Mervyn), and by his brother-in-law Jack Lawrence.
Visitation will be held at the Brian E. Wood Funeral Home, 250 14th St. W., Owen Sound, 519-376-7492, on Friday, January 21st from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. All attendees must wear a mask, follow social distancing protocols and RSVP via the funeral home website or by calling.
A private funeral service to celebrate Gilbert’s life will be held on Saturday, January 22nd with Rev. Kathy Underwood officiating. Spring interment will take place at McLean’s Cemetery, Bognor.
