It is with a deep sadness that we announce the passing of Dr. Charles Robert ‘LEE’ Brown (aka Charlie Brown), in his 79th year, born May 11, 1943. Lee is predeceased by his parents Charles Edward Brown and Edythe Marie Brown (nee Legge) of Brantford, ON.
Lee is survived by his wife Monique Brown (nee Chouinard), his two daughters Jacqueline Furtner (Simon) and Dr. Natalie Kivell (Kurt), his two precious granddaughters Josephine Furtner and Audrey Kivell, and his sister Maureen Massicotte (Paul).
Lee was affectionately known by his family, friends, staff, colleagues, and patients as ‘Doc’. As an orthodontist in the Grey-Bruce community for over 35 years, Lee helped create countless smiling faces. Lee graduated in 1966 from the University of Toronto Dental School and in typical Lee fashion thirsted for more knowledge and went on to graduate from his Orthodontics training at the University of Western Ontario in 1979.
Lee then moved to Owen Sound to start his family, raise his children, and run the Owen Sound Dental Clinic where he maintained his orthodontic practice, retiring in 2014. He was smart, curious, and always wanted to share the neat things that he would learn with the people around him, handing off earmarked books and clipped out newspaper articles when he joined you for dinner. Lee could talk about teeth for more hours than anyone would want to listen, and whether it be in his practice or across the dinner table, Doc could always be counted on for a quick-witted story or an astute observation.
Lee could often be found on the fairways of local and international golf courses. He was a thrill-seeking adrenaline junkie, and world traveler – we won’t even try to count how many countries and places he has visited. He was a certified pilot who until recently had and flew his own Cessna with the call sign Charlie-Papa Zulu Juliet (C-PZJ)and rumour has it he once flew his plane upside down over the Rhine River in Germany, and scandalously kayaked down a ski hill in the middle of the winter in a swimsuit, helmet, and life jacket. Lee found joy in captaining his boat the MoNa LeeJa (named after himself, wife, and daughters), and if you knew Lee, then he likely twisted your arm into a flight in his plane or a boat ride on the bay, likely more than once. Undoubtedly, Dr. Lee Brown — Doc — will be deeply missed by his family, his friends, and his community.
A Visitation for friends and family will be held at the Brian E. Wood Funeral Home, 250 14th Street West, Owen Sound, 519-376-7492 on Thursday March 10th from 5:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. All attendees must wear a mask.
