A fire in the Chi Cheemaun ferry is out, but it suffered some damage.
At 2:20 am today (March 12th) Thunder Bay Fire Rescue was called to 201 Shipyard Rd. for a blaze that erupted inside the ship.
Firefighters encountered some light smoke upon entry – the fire broke out in the boiler room.
There was extensive damage to one of the ferry’s boilers and electrical system.
All damage was contained to the room where it started with light smoke escaping to other areas, which was eventually cleared.
The cause is still under investigation.
