More changes are coming to garbage collection in Simcoe County.
Starting in November 2021, curbside waste collection will go to an automated cart collection system.
This new system uses a mechanical arm, on each collection vehicle, that picks up, empties and places carts back on the curb with the driver rarely needing to leave the cab.
The carts include wheels making them easy to transfer to and from the curb.
The county will provide every household with three new wheeled carts, one for garbage, another for recycling and the third for organics.
The carts will be sized for the continuation of bi-weekly recycling and garbage pick up and weekly organics collection.
The county says there will be changes to routes and collection days to maximize efficiency.
The new system will help address the labour shortage that had been causing delays in collection across Simcoe County.
