Bill passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side, on Wednesday, October 12, 2022. Born on April 26, 1937, in Shelburne. William Alfred Thompson of Wiarton was in his 86th year.
Dearly loved husband of Alice Thompson. Proud father of John Thompson and Lynn Fraser (Allan), of Hillsburgh, Laurie Vervaeke (Steve), of Meaford. Grandpa to Devin, Sherri (Ryan), Jeremy (Katie), Melissa (Kyle), Matthew (Kirsten), James (Angela), Casey (Marlee), and Lochlin. Great Grandpa to Nathan, Joshua, and Colton. Stepfather to Tony Hahn (Julie), Wendy Hahn (Mike Siefried), Ann Hahn (Don Hibbs), Tim Hahn, Ted Hahn (Becky), Tom Hahn, T.J. Hahn (Nikki), all of Guelph. Poppa Bill of 10 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. He will be missed by his many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his first wife Donna Thompson, both his parents Alfred and Georgina Thompson, his siblings Ralph Thompson, Ruth Shorthill, Bernice MacArthur, Shirley Anderson, Johnny Thompson, and his granddaughter Sherri Fraser.
Bill retired in 2000, after 35 years working for Ford in Oakville. He served as a volunteer firefighter in Hillsburgh for 18 years. Bill was an active, lifelong member of the Loyal Orange Lodge. He was the founding president of the Hillsburgh Snow Roamers Club, a grandmaster of Sarawak Masonic Lodge #1302 and a beloved member of Ravenna Masonic Lodge #1396.
Bill loved to travel and the great outdoors, including hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, and boating.
An Orange Lodge service for Bill will be held at the Brian E. Wood Funeral Home, Owen Sound, 519-376-7492 on Saturday, November 5, 2022 at 1:30 p.m. and a celebration of life will follow from 2-4 p.m.
