The Bruce County Housing Corporation is going to be increasing rent on Community Housing units in 2023.
The increase is based on the Ontario Rent Increase Guideline of 2.5%.
Director of Human Services Christine MacDonald says that the increase will help to close the gap and or eliminate differing market rents within one building, adding, “We do have some average market rents in buildings that were amalgamated with us a few years ago, that we are, over time, bringing them to a current market rate.”
MacDonald adds that current tenants wouldn’t be affected, because “[they] are able to receive rent geared to income subsidy, where it applies to them.”
The increase would go into effect on April 1st, 2023.
The Housing Corporation Committee also approved that rent geared to income assistance be provided immediately for all tenants that qualify when the increase takes effect.
