It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of a dear mother, Dorothy ‘Joyce’ Franklin of Meaford, Ontario on Friday, June 16, 2023 at the Meaford Hospital in her 90th year.
Born on March 5, 1934 on the family farm to Bert and Dorothy (nee Ashby) Almond.
Joyce was predeceased by her beloved husband Douglas Franklin of 58 years, and by her daughter Barbara in 2022.
She was survived by her children, Susan & Kris, Michael & Laura, and Ann & Daniel and son-in-law Dave Ellis. Joyce will be fondly remembered by her 8 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
Joyce was 1 of 9 siblings, learning from an early age the values of caring for family, and the fine art of baking the best raspberry pie. Her values for family are as deep rooted as the etching in the maple tree that she & Doug carved their initials into to signify their love. Family meant the world to Joyce. She was very proud of her family and enjoyed time spent together, whether in person or on the phone. ‘Nana’s’ kindness and caring ways will be missed by everyone. She never missed a birthday or milestone event.
A special thank you to Dr’s Kingston & Kapusta, and all the nurses and staff at the Meaford Hospital for the exceptional care and compassion shown to Joyce & her family.
A funeral service will be conducted at the Church of Christ in Meaford on Tuesday, June 20, 2023 at 11 o’clock, with visiting the hour prior to service. A reception will follow with an opportunity to share stories and refreshments with family and friends. A private service of committal and internment will take place at the Lakeview Cemetery in Meaford.
