Lee Manor in Owen Sound is celebrating 50 years.
The long-term care facility on 6th Street East held an event to mark the milestone with its residents, staff and local dignitaries, including Owen Sound Mayor Ian Boddy, Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound MPP Rick Byers, and Grey County Director of Long Term Care Jennifer Cornell on June 20.
Speeches and a ceremonial ribbon cutting were held at the facility’s FamiLee Garden, with musical entertainment.
Lee Manor Executive Director Stacey Goldie says it feels amazing to reach this milestone considering everything they went through during the Covid pandemic.
“This was a long time coming and it is wonderful to be able to gather with our community partners, with our residents, our volunteers, and our staff for this absolutely joyous occasion for the first time to be together to celebrate something so positive,” says Goldie.
She adds looking back, new challenges arose and evolved through the pandemic.
“We are noticing the needs of our residents are becoming much more complex and we are enhancing our education and our skills to be able to meet their needs,” says Goldie.
Boddy praised the quality of service at the facility saying how needed it is.
“Certainly over the last number of years treatment, medical treatment of people that are aging has been transferred more from hospital to long-term care facilities so these are very important as we age,” says Boddy.
Goldie says they also had a display up showing the 50 things its residents liked about Lee Manor.
