Passed away peacefully at Owen Sound Hospital on August 11, 2023. Born in Chesley, ON, on October 31, 1943, William Edgar Douglas Dailey of Georgian Bluffs was in his 80th year.
Beloved husband of the late Sharon Dailey (nee Riddell). Loving father of Joanne Beattie (Chris) of Georgian Bluffs. Cherished Poppa of Quinton (Kristen Armstrong), Taylor, Jensen, Luke (Hayley Burton), and Peyton. Great grandpa of Lyrah, Hadleigh, and Harper. Dear brother of Don (Wanda) of Kemble and brother-in-law of Brenda of Owen Sound. Doug will also be missed by Marilyn Haw of Bayfield, Max & Audrey Cyr of Hanover, and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Predeceased by his parents Earl & Marion, his parents-in-law Howard & Fannie Riddell, his son Ray, his siblings Tom (Gloria) and Dave, and his brother-in-law Don Haw.
Doug Dailey was a man of many talents and trades. He was a lifelong farmer, hunter, his own mechanic, teacher of his knowledge, great storyteller and he liked playing with his heavy equipment. For over 25 years, Doug’s annual corn roast and country music jam brought people together, uniting his love for good music, dancing, and great company. You would often see him with Pepsi in hand, a Crystal beer or possibly a Lake Charles Heart Starter. He would light up when spending time with his grandchildren, and his great granddaughters. He had a well-lived life.
A funeral service to celebrate Doug’s life will be held at Brian E. Wood Funeral Home, 250 14th St. W., Owen Sound, 519-376-7492, on Wednesday August 23, 2023, at 12 pm, with visitation two hours prior. A reception will follow at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #6. Interment will take place in Oxenden Cemetery.
As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations to the Alzheimer’s Society or Golden Dawn Senior Citizens Home would be appreciated. Online condolences can be sent to Doug’s family by visiting his memorial at www.woodfuneralhome.ca.
