Meaford is awarding a $254,000 tender for a new operator to take over local transit services.
Council approved the tender to First Canada ULC during its meeting on Aug. 28 ahead of when the current contract with the transit operator wraps up this October.
The report from Director of Financial Services and Treasurer Valerie Manning says the tender to retain services for a new transit operator will be in effect for the next five years.
Four transit operator bids were received, with First Canada ULC being the least expensive.
In 2019, Meaford awarded a four-year contract for a transit operator to provide customer service, ride scheduling, transit operations, and vehicle maintenance of a municipally owned transit van, which provides point-to-point specialized transit services to residents.
The Meaford Moves+ service, operated Tuesday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., is for eligible residents to book rides within the municipality for appointments and social engagements, as well as to travel to Owen Sound, Town of the Blue Mountains, and Collingwood for medical appointments only.
“Meaford Moves+ currently has over 300 card holders and saw over 1,800 rides booked in 2022,” says the report.
